The Pop Antique Story
Launched in 2007 and currently based in San Francisco, CA, Pop Antique is an eclectic, feminine daywear line with a focus on sustainable design and innovative corsets. The name represents designer Marianne Faulkner's work by bringing together a playful, modern element with references to bygone eras for a result that is neither dated nor derivative. Pop Antique continually strives to create fashion that is highly wearable without losing its characteristic sophisticated whimsy. Comfort, functional design, and sustainable materials are integral to the Pop Antique philosophy. All Pop Antique corsets, clothing and accessories are handmade in San Francisco by the designer herself.
Marianne has both a BFA and an MFA in fashion design, and studied under Dark Garden proprietress Autumn Adamme for her thesis project, which saw the launch of Pop Antique's current ready-to-wear corsetry line. Pop Antique is Underpinned™ by Dark Garden, and Marianne has seen her role at Dark Garden grow through the years. She is currently the Creative Director and Autumn's right-hand woman.
Marianne is also known for her corset education efforts. You can read her corsetry musings on The Daily Waist, The Lingerie Addict, and Foundations Revealed. In 2013, she spoke at the inaugural Oxford Conference of Corsetry alongside the designers of Sparklewren, Clessidra Couture, Crikey Aphrodite, and Morúa Designs.
